none of us is free until all of us are free

Wow. What an intense week.

What happened in Charlottesville was domestic terrorism. The wake of it, has most of the country spinning.

From where I sit, I see many camps, as I’m sure do you: some people posting online a LOT about it and calling others to step up. Even shaming notable leaders for not doing so. Many quiet. Millions upset, angry. Millions stuck, unsure of what to do or how to do it. Some (and all of us at some point) so tired of being sad and angry and unclear how such hate could exist on our shores.

Just when we thought Donald Trump was going on vaca and we all might have a beachy respite from drama, America’s worst edges step it a notch.

This was my response to it over the weekend which was (weirdly?) taken down off facebook.

It was attached to a (terrifying, powerful) image of a small child in KKK dress touching a black police officer’s shield.

**My heart aches witnessing the events transpiring in Charlottesville. Violence? Death? It’s difficult to process how such hate can exist in our country.

It also magnifies seeing my privilege: to live in a diverse and generous city that feels removed from it. But of course we are not removed from it. This is our world. I hear and see small and large racism often. Close to me. Said without a shrug of apology as though it is just fact. Sometimes I’ve ignored it to keep an immediate peace; I’ve been complicit. I take responsibility. Because you don’t want to argue with a stranger or a grandma… you might keep silent. That time is over.

Most are saying and acknowledging it: there is a divisive darkness in us that needs to be healed. I certainly don’t have any answers. I do have deep sadness and anger. That EVERY person in this country is not condemning these actions, most notably our President is supremely wrong. Prayers to Charlottesville. Feet to action.
**

What I have said for years is that you cannot part and parcel oneness. How we are in one area of our life, the integrity or Love we hold, is how we are in EVERY area of life.

HOW YOU DO ONE THING IS HOW YOU DO EVERYTHING.

WHERE YOU ARE CLOSED IN ONE SPACE, YOU ARE CLOSED EVERYWHERE.

From a wider, cosmic, bird’s eye view, from the view that we are ALL ONE, this is OUR sickness. This is a part of us.

This is the toxicity of our humanity, coming up, purging to be healed. How we react to it is the measure of who we are.

In the same way that cutting out cancer does not heal a person, we cannot just cut this away from our life, ignore it as fringe, or not own who we are in this.

What happened in Charlottesville is who we are.

People don’t get just get cancer because there is an abnormality of cells. That’s just a side effect.

Cancer is from anger. Or resentment. Or treating other parts of our body or being like crap. Or (shall I go there?) even karma from a past life.

Charlottesville is OUR cancer.

It is a side effect of our racism, our patriarchy. It is coming up to show us our sickness.

And the spiritual answer, in addition to love and prayers is: OWNERSHIP.

Ownership. Taking responsibility that this is ours.

And with that responsibility is action: speaking out, looking at our own actions, taking action, or even donating money if we are affluent in other ways and don’t have time. Do something.

WE CANNOT COLLECTIVELY AWAKEN UNTIL THIS IS SEEN AND ADDRESSED.

There is no ascension, no flow, no rise of the Divine without this healing.

To ignore this is not to live in a higher state. The people in highest states of consciousness spend all their time, not manifesting for themselves, not equating “high vibe” with success, but going into the dark and deep and healing others.

We don’t need to spend all our time there. Perhaps we’re not there. Cool, cool.

But are we looking away because it’s messy and uncomfortable? Or inconvenient?

None of us is free until all of us are free.

We must own this as ours.

And of course, as always, send love.

x
